THE SKIING
During our Steep Week in April 2008 guests will ski steeper than normal high alpine descents through couloirs, bowls and trees. The guest-to-guide ratio will be low -only three or four per guide. Steep skiing, avalanche awareness, and mountaineering skills will be reviewed. Advanced to expert skiers and boarders only please.

THE MOUNTAINS
The San Juans Mountains around Telluride are Colorado's youngest range at only 40 million years of age and boast the greatest concentration of 13,000 and 14,000-foot summits south of the Canadian Yukon. The scenery is steep, rugged, snow covered and consistently recognized as some of the most breathtaking in North America.

THE SNOWPACK AND STEEPER SKIING
The longer days of March and April begin to settle instability in the snowpack of the San Juan Mountains surrounding Telluride. This action allows our guides to lead clients onto steeper slopes as the season progresses. Generally speaking late March and April is the best period for skiing in our mountains. But unfortunately far too often skiers hang up their boards when spring reaches the valleys below. Helitrax's terrain reaches elevations of up to 13,800 feet and the powder truly stays cold on these high peaks.

Although the powder skiing all winter long in our mountains is stellar the San Juans abound with breathtaking couloirs such as the one pictured at the top of this page. It makes little sense to abandoned skiing when the snowpack is at its deepest, most stable, and the boldest lines of the season can finally be attempted. Join us in late March and April for the great skiing we offer each season.

THE HELICOPTER
All of our guests fly in the small group comfort of a Bell 407 helicopter. Each seat from within a  Bell 407 offers soaring views of the jagged San Juans.

HELI-SKIING RESERVATION INFORMATION:

Guests may make a reservation for any of our heli-skiing packages more than thirty-days in advance of their ski date with a deposit equal to 1/2 of each skier's tour package.  A portion of this deposit, listed under your package on the policies page, is non-refundable under any circumstances in which you personally choose to cancel.

Full payment is expected 30 days before your tour date.
