The big lines are filled with snow and the steeper terrrain has been available. If you have ever thought about heliskiing, now is the time. Helitrax's terrain ranges from 13,700 feet to 11,000 feet and winter at these elevations lasts well into April.

There will be plenty of time to cut your grass this summer, now is the time to ski the high peaks!

Powder Skiing Report!
It may have seemed like spring in the lower elevations of Colorado the past two weeks, but in the high San Juans we have been enjoying the best powder skiing of the season on the high north facing slopes that make up our terrain. Even Colorado locals find it hard to believe that powder can still exist when the ski areas offer only wet corn snow, but skiing is believing. Helitrax's terrain ranges from 13,700 feet to 11,000 feet and winter at these elevations lasts well into April.

Currently colder winter temperatures have returned and 8 to 12 inches of snow are forecasted through Friday. Make plans to join us this weekend for powder skiing on our high, dry, north facing terrain.

There will be plenty of time to cut your grass this summer, now is the time to ski the high peaks!!!!

We are open through the 15th of April Seats are available this weekend.

Snowing in the San Juans....
Sunday the 28th was among the best skiing I have done in my six years with the company. The skiing was 8 inches of silky snow on steeper terrain in the Silverton terrain area. Currently it is snowing with 6 to 11 inches expected by Thursday morning. Seats are available.

An El Nino weather system is continuing to build in the Pacific. This El Nino could bode well for additional big snows throughout the winter and "not to be missed" spring powder skiing season to come (see below).

January 20th, 2007
Current skiing conditions are soft and untracked across the San Juans. 2 to 4 inches of new snow has fallen today with another 2 to 4 expected tomorrow. The snow quality and skiing experience is very good at this time. Guests are enjoying untracked skiing.
December 24th, 2006
27 inches buried the San Juan Mountains in storms this week. Two feet fell the week prior
and conditions are stellar. Our high elevation heliski terrain is in good condition for the winter season ahead and a strong El Nino weather system is building in the Pacific that could bode well for additional big snows through out the winter and spring to come

The Bear Creek Descent:
To celebrate our 25th season Helitrax is offering a guided 4,300 foot descent from the upper reaches of the Bear Creek drainage to the streets of Telluride. A minimum group size of three expert skiers or riders is needed. Skiers must in excellent physical condition. The cost is $2
85- per person for groups of three or four and includes guide service, helicopter access, avalanche beacon, shovel pack, and powder ski rental. November 29th, 2006

Hot Dog ...
A strong winter storm has deposited two feet of snow in our heliski terrain, more snowfall is expected today.
September and October brought over 60 inches (90 centmetres) to the high peaks of the San Juan Mountains. We are hopeful for a fabulous winter as an El Nino weather system is building in the Pacific.

November 13th, 2006
A snowy fall...

Approximately 10 to 12 inches of snow fell over the weekend in the high country. The forecast calls for 8 to 16 inches additional today and tomorrow.

Spring has sprung in the San Juan Mountains. In the past 10 days temperatures have risen into the 70's here in town. The rivers are swollen with snowmelt and the trees are budding, but on the peaks this season's deep snowpack lingers.  For those who enjoy hiking to earn their turns, steep "corn" skiing on a melt/freeze crust is currently at its best.  Guided backcountry skiing will be available as long as the snow lasts.

Our heliski season ended on April 3rd when the Telluride Ski Area closed for the season.  It was Helitrax's best season in 23 years as skiers and boarders from across the world visited "the undiscovered jewel of destination heliskiing".
Thank you all.....

NEWS: December 22nd, 2004
This morning the low temperature was -5 degrees in Telluride. Now that the winter solstice is passed the days begin to grow longer.  The backcountry skiing has been truly memorable this fall and although current snow depth makes helicopter skiing operations possible, we feel the quality of the powder snow in the alpine zones in which we ski is not up to our own high standards.  Therefore Telluride Helitrax has determined that January 13th, 2005 will be our opening date.  This was a difficult decision because of the demand from our guests to ski over the holiday, but since we only heliski when conditions are near their best, we feel this was the only decision we could make.

NEWS: December 3rd, 2004
After a two month break we have found the time to issue another report.  The snowy fall weather has continued.  Currently the snowpack is 150% of normal! Long time locals state that this is the best start to a ski season, "in 20 years".  Needless to say we are hopeful and excited for the upcoming season.  If ample early season snow continues and advanced reservations are sufficient, we plan to open on December 26th.  Otherwise our opening date will be January 13th, 2005.  In you would like to ski with us over the holidays, call us now so that we can plan for your arrival.

Our second snow storm of the season painted the peaks over the past two days with approximately 8 inches in the high mountains.  The aspen leaves are at the peak of their yearly display of brilliant yellow, orange, and reds.  The temperature only reached a high of 38 degrees yesterday, but warmer weather should return by the end of the week.  In town the buzz of the ski season to come is growing.  Here at Telluride Helitrax we continue to send our brochure, poster, and a new DVD to those who request them.  We are hopeful that an increasing number of heliskiers will come to realize how special heli-skiing is here in southwest Colorado.

Why Go Heliskiing?

For the best skiing of your life..powder skiing.  Telluride Helitrax believes we offer "the best skiing in Colorado ".  Our guests agree but many of them go a step further in their praise.  Mike Schoo recently stated, "Hey thanks for the trip last Saturday.  I meant what I said, having skied in British Columbia I want to say again that the terrain and snow conditions I skied with Helitrax was better than anything I did in Canada!!!"  Dick Pederson, who joined us last winter , and has skied well over a hundred thousand vertical feet in Canada told us that he felt Helitrax was better because, "the groups are smaller and the snow is great".  Helitrax is unique. We offer the smallest guest to guide ratio, a maximum of four guests to one guide, of any heliskiing company in North America . On many occasions we ski with a three to one ratio. Heliskiing in a small group is an intimate way to enjoy powder skiing and more than worth the extra expense.    Our Location We are located in southwest Colorado 's San Juan Mountains , the greatest concentration of 13,000 and 14,000 foot summits in the lower 48.  Considered by many to be Colorado 's most impressive range, the San Juans dazzle skiers with jagged peaks and dry powder snows. This geography provides Telluride Helitrax  with a truly amazing area in which to heliski.  Add to this the nearby ski area and town of Telluride, which was voted this year among the top ten overall ski resorts to visit in North America, and you have found your destination for a heliskiing vacation.  We are a family-owned heliskiing operator continuing to provide what we believe is one of the finest heliskiing experiences in North America .
The 2006 Season/ Our 23rd Season We will begin the 2006 ski season on the 10th of January.  There are still many opportunities to make a reservation with us for the upcoming season.  New Partnerships Telluride Helitrax and the Inn at Lost Creek, a luxury boutique hotel ranked among the top 25 hotels in North America , have partnered for the winter of 2004.  We will be staging our trips each day out of the Inn at Lost Creek.  The benefits to our guests include: the convenience of lodging and heliskiing from one location, special pricing, and a comfortable location to relax before and after heliskiing.  Christy Sports, a new ski shop located in the same building as the Inn at Lost Creek, is working with Telluride Helitrax to outfit our guests with the best performing models of fat skis.  Additionally Rossignol skis and Telluride Helitrax are continuing a 17 year partnership, look for their skis to be in our rental fleet.

Join Us From Aspen or Vail/Beaver Creek, Colorado

If you are planning a vacation to another Colorado ski resort this year, consider taking a day and heliskiing in Telluride. Telluride Helitrax will arrange for chartered fixed-wing air service to Telluride from anywhere in Colorado for a day of heliskiing in Telluride.  This is an unforgettable day of alpine adventure that returns you roundtrip in one day.  Please view our web site for details or contact our office staff available to help answer any questions you may have.
